In recent years, Bitcoin has emerged as a significant geopolitical asset, and we believe its strategic importance will continue to grow in the coming years.
We are convinced that holding Bitcoin will benefit Switzerland, strengthening its economy and safeguarding its independence.
At present, the Swiss Constitution requires the Swiss National Bank (SNB) to hold gold as part of its monetary reserves.
Our proposal seeks to amend the Constitution to include Bitcoin as an additional reserve asset.
Is it serious?
Yes, this is a formal and legitimate popular initiative with the goal of amending Article 99, Paragraph 3 of the Swiss Constitution. It was officially submitted to the Swiss Chancellery and validated on December 31, 2024. The committee now faces the task of gathering 100,000 signatures from Swiss citizens to secure its placement on a national referendum.
Article 99, Paragraph 3 of the Swiss Constitution currently states: «The Swiss National Bank shall create sufficient currency reserves from its revenues; part of these reserves shall be held in gold.» We propose adding three words to the end of the sentence: «and in Bitcoin.»
No mention of quantity?
This is intentional. It aligns with the current approach to gold reserves. We trust the Swiss National Bank to act in Switzerland’s best interest and have of course no intention of dictating how they should perform their duties.
Since Bitcoin units are divisible, once the Constitution incorporates the Bitcoin amendment, the Swiss National Bank could hold an amount in Bitcoin equivalent to as little as one Swiss franc or as much as one million Swiss francs for example.
Moreover, given that the Bitcoin exchange market is highly liquid and operates 24/7/365, the Swiss National Bank could seamlessly adjust its Bitcoin holdings in response to various factors, including market dynamics, economic developments, and broader political considerations.
Who are you?
The committee brings together individuals from diverse backgrounds, united by a profound interest in Bitcoin and extensive study of the subject. We are an independent group, unaffiliated with any political party or ideology, and proudly represent all regions of Switzerland and its three main languages.
But of course, we are not alone in this project, and alongside us we are proud to get the support from a multitude of other Swiss individuals, equally motivated to help Bitcoin grow within the Swiss economy. To learn more about us, visit our committee page.

How many signatures have you collected?
We are just at the beginning, so the current numbers are quite small. Additionally, since signatures must be handwritten on physical paper, automating a counter is not possible. However, we will regularly update this page with the latest counts of signatures received and those verified by the communes.
The real question is: How many signatures have you already sent?

How can I help?
You can make a significant impact by simply spreading the word and gathering signatures from your network of friends, colleagues, and family members.
We need to collect over 100,000 signatures within 18 months, which averages to roughly 200 signatures per day. That’s why we rely on our supporters to help gather signatures from their networks of friends, family, and colleagues.
